Fast, friendly, and fully functional, our Leica Repair Service is well renowned throughout the UK, Europe and beyond with fast turnaround. Our speciality is 35mm rangefinder film camera repair, service and restoration with the skill and experience our clients have come to expect. We always stand behind our work, with customer satisfaction being our top priority. Our charges start at £145 for a full service/repair on a Leica Screw Mount camera, £175 for a full service/repair on your Leica M2/3, £85 for a lens service/repair. We are ready to repair and service virtually any 35mm rangefinder Leica camera, from the earliest Barnack LTM through to the MP. Our servicing is thorough and detailed. All functions such as shutter speeds and rangefinder calibration are taken care of using specialised test equipment. Our aim is for your camera to be fully functional, work smoothly and be ready to shoot film!

We can restore your camera to its former glory. We re-build rangefinder prisms on-site, replace beamsplitters. Where a part can no longer be sourced, we endeavour to manufacture a part. Re-plating or re-painting is often required - no problem. We deal with many old and historic cameras that require sympathetic restoration, maybe you have a candidate?

We offer a number of finishes, including the classic black gloss factory finish, designed to gradually brass over time. You choose the exact look you want - we make it happen. After retiring from camera repairs some years ago and after working in a corporate environment for quite a few years, Alan decided to meet the needs of the growing ranks of film users and collectors and cameraworks was born. Read a little more about us...

Email Queries

Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that on certain Leica forums we have been criticised for not answering emails/enquiries as quickly as other perhaps larger companies – this has saddened us. We understand your concern but we are a very small, specialist bespoke business, with limited human resources. We receive email enquiries 24 hours a day seven days a week from around the world. Many of the questions we get asked require considerable thought and necessitate complex answers. There is a limited amount of time we have available to address such requests and consequently, some will, inevitably, slip through the net. If you feel this has happened to you, please be patient and try again.

 

Let us be judged on the quality of our workmanship rather than how long we sit behind a computer screen. When you send your camera to us, also remember that each time you ask us 'exactly how long will it take before we start your repair?' it slows us down. We'd love to be able to have a slick project management system that works like clockwork (we are working towards this) but there are only two of us and only so many hours in a day.

The precision engineering work we undertake on your Leica is, more often than not, exceedingly complicated and so time consuming. So, if we don't immediately answer an email or even if your enquiry has appeared to have dropped off the list, we've not gone out of business or have run away with your camera – we're merely exceedingly busy fixing either your pride and joy or someone else’s pride and joy. Under the circumstances, please be sympathetic to our position.

BREXIT ANNOUNCEMENT

The United Kingdom has been a member of the EU since the 1970s but due to the outcome of a referendum in 2016, the United Kingdom will leave the EU, possibly as early as October 31st 2019. What does this mean for our European clients? Providing the leaving date isn't delayed, either the UK will retain free movement of goods within the EU or, from that date onwards, the United Kingdom will become a 'foreign' country from the point of International Customs, the latter looking like the most likely outcome at the moment.

 

Many of our customers are from countries outside Europe and dealing with them is straightforward. The only difference for our clients in Europe, will be that anything sent to us may require a customs declaration, sometimes known as a CN23 form or 'commercial invoice' to be attached to the shipment. If using DHL or UPS etc, a commercial invoice will automatically be generated. This contains the value, country of origin and weight of the goods being sent. We strongly recommend manually adding the words to the commercial invoice, “Sent for repair and return”, will allow the shipper to process the package appropriately with the minimum of delay. When we return the package, we state “Returned to owner after repairs in the UK”. This allows your customs agency to recognise that the equipment is yours and being returned, rather than being a purchase that might attract import duty and VAT.

 

It is quite likely that there will be some delays at ports directly after Brexit and is to be expected due to changes at border crossings with small transport firms presenting incorrect paperwork etc, however there is no reason to believe that these delays will persist for very long. Small commercial companies will soon learn correct procedures and large companies have been preparing for this for some time. Air freight is less likely to be affected as sophisticated cargo systems are easier to switch from 'local' to 'international' customs status.
